The Clamp method, cited in the new European urology guidelines (EAU 2025): Discover the B-Ring by DVIMAG

The European Association of Urology (EAU) has published its updated 2025 guidelines on urethral strictures, which address retrograde urethrography (RUG) as the gold standard technique for evaluating the location and length of urethral strictures.

In section 5.2.1.4 “Urethrography”, the EAU highlights the use of clamp-type fixation devices (such as Brodny or Knutson) as a preferred option over Foley catheters, stating that:

“Urethrographic clamp devices are less painful than the Foley catheter technique.” — (EAU Guidelines on Urethral Strictures, 2025 – Section 5.2.1.4)

Furthermore, the guidelines explicitly recommend:

“Use clamp devices instead of a Foley catheter for urethrographic evaluation in order to reduce pain.” — (Level of evidence 2a)
